Paper and electronic documents are critical to the success of modern businesses. Transactional documents would typically be, business to customer, or business to supplier, documents such as invoices, reminders and shipping documents. These types of document differ from marketing documents in that they are regularly produced. Marketing documents for example such as letters, newsletters, brochures, coupons, sales flyers, special offers, invitations, labels, name cards, and so on can all be designed, created and delivered by PARIS Business. One thing all these types of document have in common is that they comprise both information extracted from a database, and fixed information. This is often referred to as Mail Merge or Variable Data Publishing (VDP).
PARIS Business is a system that merges both types of information together to create the complete document – whatever that document might be. PARIS Business is significantly different to the standard Mail Merge, provided as part of MS Word, or the capability embedded within line of business applications. PARIS Business is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) design system, so any variable information can be seen, exactly where it is going to be printed, while a document is being designed. Furthermore, the designer can scroll through the database input file and preview every individual page that will be printed later on.
PARIS Business may be used for simple documents, but is also a system that has a rich set of advanced features for the more demanding user. Imagine that a database has two types of customer and you wish to target each type directly. Using PARIS Business, the incoming data can be tested, and the correct coupon or offer letter can be created for the individual recipient. The intelligent composition of documents can reduce the cost of printing by eliminating irrelevant content. Customisation of information can also increase the business benefit of sending transactional documents such as statements and insurance renewals. This technique is often referred to as Transpromo.

PARIS Business expands the capability of XLPrint’s entry product, PARIS Desktop, providing electronic document delivery by email or fax, and the automated archiving of documents within a corporate archive system or data management repository. PARIS Business additional features include an ODBC query option, so regular queries can be run, data extracted and documents produced. Production jobs can be set up to run without human intervention as a fully automated process.
Easy to use
Anyone who can use a Windows application such as Microsoft Office will be able to use PARIS Business. The software is heavily driven by wizards to make the creation of documents quick and simple.
Incorporate fixed and dynamic information or graphics throughout
All information, either fixed or dynamic, that is to be included in the final design is visible on the screen, exactly where it is going to be printed. Multiple page document previews can be scrolled through on screen. Dynamic information can be inserted from any supported file type.
Full set of barcodes included
No technical knowledge of barcodes is required to use this feature. Barcodes can be applied anywhere on the page. PARIS Business comes complete with a full set of barcodes. Any database field can have a barcode applied, to be printed in any size and at any position on the page. No technical knowledge of barcoding is required to use this feature.
Uses CSV, text files or ODBC queries for data input
Dynamic information can be inserted from any standard CSV type file such as Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Access. Any text file that can be displayed in Notepad or Wordpad can be used as an input file. ODBC queries can be created and saved for future use.
Familiar printing
PARIS Business uses the Windows printing system, so can print to any Windows printer that is available on the network. The Launch Pad is used to submit a print job. All the user needs to know is the name of the input file (the database extract file, normally a CSV file) and the name of the design layout that is to be used. The “Print Now” function of the launchpad is used to submit a print job. Alternatively the launchpad also allows the user to create automatic workflows, so that daily jobs, such as invoices and statements, may be received, formatted and printed without intervention.
